Busdriver is proud to release a pair of his most adventurous recordings with the single "Leaf House". For the A-side, "Leaf House (Busdriver Cover)", Busdriver has dipped his musical sensibility into the shimmering mineral bath that is Animal Collective's songbook while B-side "Ladyplace" finds him collaborating with revered producer and beat scene mainstay Flying Lotus to arrive at some of his most heartwarming songwriting yet.
His cover of Animal Collective's album opener off of 2004's Sung Tongs gives a peek into some of his contemporary influences and firmly asserts what his future output might start sounding like, including his upcoming, as-of-yet-unannounced full length. The cover itself equally defies and embraces key elements of the original, almost as if Bus and his producer Loden were squeezing the song into their musical canon over a summer until it melted seamlessly into their repertoire. The result is a stadium sized re-imagining of this oddly gorgeous song.
Ladyplace is one of Flying Lotus's new lush jazz-inflected suites crafted to house Busdriver's newly adopted approaches to melody-driven performances and cryptic love storytelling. The two occupy the expanses within each of their imaginative architecture to arrive at a spooky yet soaring song pickled with shimmering melody. Ladyplace is evidence that these two have more ground to tread in the near future.
