I’m Always Recovering From Tomorrow

(Gold Standard Labs)

Release date: Apr 29, 2003

Giovanni Marks aka Subtitle has come along way from selling CDs out of his backpack. His debut solo EP I'm Always Recovering From Tomorrow was conceived in a 8x8 studio with no windows which allowed him to focus solely on music. The amount of dedication he's put into it is evident in this abstract collection of beat and vocal experiments. To this day it continues to redefine the definition of hip hop and pushes the boundaries in creative sound design. Marks even goes as far as using a Nintendo Gameboy for one of the tracks. The productions are a raw representation of the artist. Heavy beats and vocals are mashed out on a 4 track recorder. The EP achieves prominence in Subtitle's ability to make his listeners think beyond the norms. His ideas and questions on existence are intricately detailed and skillfully delivered in his futurist rhyme styles.
