Psychic Powers was formed in 2007 by Nik Brinkman of Over the Atlantic and Ale Cohen of Languis. The two met briefly in Los Angeles while Nik was on tour. They then decided to collaborate and write songs together via the internet from their home countries, New Zealand and the United States, respectively.
Releasing their debut single from forthcoming full-length, Infinity, Psychic Powers serve up two glorious helpings of their '90s-influenced electronic pop: 'Glide' sounds like a less hoary version of The Big Pink, piling layers of textured guitar and synth lines onto a bedrock of beats the like of which PM Dawn would be pleased about. Exclusive B-side, 'Blue Icing' keeps those early '90s vibes flowing, slipping a raved up rhythm section into the track, complete with sirens and slightly New Order-ish guitar parts. Good stuff.
