The Grouch

The Grouch is one of the founding members of the internationally infamous crew, The Living Legends. Humbly beginning on a 4-track recorder nearly 15 years ago.

The Grouch always wanted to make beats since he first heard about this music called hip-hop. His dad played keys and he felt music was inside him as well, but he never planned on being an MC. Being from Oakland he grew up on local heroes like Digital Underground, Too Short and Toni, Tony, Tone.

It was 1991 when local groups like Del tha Funkee Homosapien and the Hieroglyphics crew were making nationwide impact. The Grouch had was convinced by a friend start writing songs in 1994. He met the Mystik Journeymen soon after and they schooled him on the independent hustle. The DIY hip-hop movement in the Bay was effectively born.

The Grouch's first show as an MC was in 1995 at the "Broke Ass Summer Jam" in East Oakland. At that time he performed under his real name and the crowd showed him much love, which he says is the main reason he stuck with making music.

The Grouch has steadily grown into one of the prominent figures within the independent hip hop scene.
